Abstract
84 Presented at the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Public Analysts at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, on Saturday,30th March 1985 by the Honorary Secretary, Mr. K. T. Chisnall. This report provides details of those aspects of their duties that public analysts have regarded as of particular importance during the year. A statistical summary illustrates, from the range of samples received, the vital role members of the Association play in providing a scientific service to the community at local and national level. House of Lords Select Committee In July the Association was informed that the House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology had set up a sub-committee to consider scientific and technical services in and available to Local Government in the United Kingdom. The enquiry was to have two parts: in the first place the review of the scientific and technical functions of Local Government and the facilities available to carry them out, and secondly an assessment of the strengths of Local Government’s scientific and technical servrces. The full terms of reference remained somewhat vague but the Association responded to the first part with a submission setting o
