The Detection of Amphetamine in Urine by Thin Layer Chromatography
Abstract
Yolume 5 December, 1967 JOT]RNAI OF THE ASSOCIATION OF PUBLIC ANALYSTS The Detection of Amphetamine in Urine by Thin Layer Chromatography D/ c. Er.r.rs+ (City and County of Bristol, Scientific Adviser’s Department, Bristol) A sirnple, thin layer chromatographic method is described for the deter- mination of amphetamine in udne. Hexan-2:5-dione and p-dimethyl- aminobenzaldehyde are used as detecting reagents thereby effecting an increase in specificity over existing thin layer chromatographic methods, The detection and determination of stimulants abused by sportsmen has been fully developed by Beckett et al.L, where gas liquid chromatography (GLC) is the dominant technique and thin layer chromatography (TLC) is used in support of the GLC results. Whilst the Public Analyst might be called upon to perform such a general ana11,sis, very often a1l that is required is an appraisal of one particular drug.
