Abstract

MEADOWS An Agar Disc Remover for Use in Microbiological Assays 6y G. Mrl.oows (City Loboratory, Salford, Lancashire) Details are given of an easily-constructed apparatus for the removal of small discs of agar from plates for microbiological procedures. t has p.roved a verlr emcient device for this technique. A length of brass tubing ofthe stated dimensions is given a smooth outside tapei and four notches filed in it as shotvn. The inaer tube, also of brass, is chosen to give a fairly close sliding fit into the outer tube. Four flats are filecl on tiris, corresponding in position to the outer notches, and the tube is giver: an inside taper. The tubes are assenibled as shown, making sule the flats and notches correspond to gir.e sma11 air vents, and held together with thin-ivalied lubber tubing.
