Abstract

79 Presented at tlrc Annual General Meeting of the Association of Public Analysts at the Clffiide Hotel, Bournenrouth on Saturday,26 April, 1980, by the Honorary Secretary, Mr J. B, Aldred Although 1978 saw the 25th Anniversary of the formation of the Association of Public Analysts, in succession to the Society of Public Analysts & Other Anal1-tica1 Chemists, the Silver Jubileewas celebrated officially in May 1979 with a two-day Symposium in London. This was the highlight ofa year in which the Assocation otherwise pursued its regular activities in the fie1d of food con- trol, and in meeting the scientific advisory needs of Local Government. As can be deduced from the title “Science Serving the Community”, the Symposium covered a wide range of interests representing the work of Public Analysts. It was held at the London Tara Hotel, Kensington, where the Mayor of the Royai Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, Sir Malby Crofton, Bt. GLC, gar,e an address of welcome. A brief review of the historical development of chemistry in relation to food and consumer senrices preceded accounts by mem- bers of the Association of the changing views which must be considered in the profession.
