Abstract
PERRY Notes on the Assay of Methaqualone Hydrochloride Tablets, and the Identification and Estimation of Methaqualone in Biological Materials by E. Prnnv (Public Analyst’s Department, TraJhlgar Place, Portsmouth) Methaqualone tablets may be conveniently assayed by non-aqueous titration techniques and identif,ed by spectroscopic methods. Its deter- mination in biological n-laterials is reviewed and a mpid semi-quantitative method of estimation is proposed. Methaqualone is the approved phamaceutical name for 3,4-dihydro- 2-methyl-4-oxo-3-o-tolylquinazoline. In medicinal form it is usually present as the hydrochloride. Methaqualone is being used to an increasing amount as a non-analgesic sedative and also as a hypnotic.
