Abstract
HAMENCE U.A.P.A., Vol.7 The Composition of Muds from Rivers, Estuaries and Lakes by J. H,A.N{rNCr (Bernard Dyer and Partners,20 Eastcheap. E.C.3) Part I of this investigation dealt with the chenical analysis of muds to determine the general co$tituents and trace elements of lakes and \a!er- ways for evidence of pollution. PaIt It details procedures for the deter- mination of ether-soluble matter in muds and for separating min€ral o1l. Methods are described for the detection of sewage pollution based on fluorescence tests and the chromatographic separation on an alumina column, together with a simple method of differentiating the traces of fluorescence due to soil from that derived from sewage.
