*MRC Dunn Clinical Nutrition Centre, 100 Tennis Court Road, Cambridge CB2 1QL and iMinistry of Agricubure, Fisheries and Footl,65 Romney Street, London SWIP 3RD A collaborative trial has becn caried out in l9laboratories to compare methods of analysis for dietary fibre. defined as total non-starch polysaccharides (NSP). The methods tested were the Englyst proccdure with GLC end-point determination, the Engl.vst method with colorimetric end-point determination, and a rapid method, based on the pentose content ol cereal products, devcloped by the Flour Milling and Baking Research Association (FMBRA).
