The Co-ordinated Sampling Programmes
Abstract
Analysts, 1979, 17, 15-19 The Co-ordinated Sampling Programmes A. Backgrounil Prior to Local Government Reorganisation in 1974, the majority of the old Food & Drug Authorities sampled under the Act in a random fashion, each inspector aiming to submit a representative spectrum of samples to reflect the wide range of products covered by this legislation. There was thus little co-ordination between the sampling omcer and the Public Analyst, resulting in inefficient laboratory operation and the use of resources; the analyst was trying to work economically by analysing groups of simiiar samples together, only to be frustrated by the time limitations applying to formal samples and lack ofcontrol ofthe rate ofreceipt.
