Abstract

MEADOWS The Determination of Cyclamates in Sweetening Tablets b-r, G. Mrlqoows (City Laboratory, Saford, Lanrushire) The sulphate formed by the action of nitrous acid on cyclamates is deter- tnined by titration with standard alcoholic ba um perchlorate solution after purif, cation by ion exchange. The method has been applied successfully to determining cyclamate in mixed sweetefling tablets, and sacchadn does not interfere. Most of the methods, however, are based on the determination of one ol the products of the nitrous acid cyclamate reaction. Rees3, and Richardson and Lutonr, measure by girs chromatography the cyclohexene produced in this reaction whilst the official method olthe Association of Agricultural Chemists5, and that of Davies6.
